Flowers, props & workshops

Flowers & props - Carolyn Carter Blog

I spent a morning last Friday enjoying some flower faffing and arranging a few props for the photography workshop I was hosting that Sunday. Any excuse to buy flowers though, right?

I'm in my element when I'm styling & photographing interiors, it's the kind of thing I'd quite happily spend all day doing. I'm less taken with interiors that are all a bit too perfect and manicured - I like things to look a bit scruffy and unpretentious. A careful balance of junk shop finds mixed with stream lined, contemporary pieces is right up my street. And nothing inspires me more than seeing a battered old table full of textured pieces of natural yarn or fabrics, an artists desk surrounded with unfinished work, tools and objects of use, or a window nook crammed with pots of succulents and greenery all spilling over.

I didn't really have a plan to incorporate this into a blog post, I just took the pictures as I went, and thought I'd share the results.

The flowers just about survived in time for Sunday's photography workshop at Honest Skincare, which turned out to be such an enjoyable, creative time. The beautiful shop setting was a perfect backdrop for the attendees to feed their creativity and pick out little details to photograph. Honest's aesthetic sums up nicely, what I was describing before - and their new home range is a way you can reflect the look in your own home.
