My sister came to stay for a few days last week - she too has the crafty bug! Mainly channelling hers into the art of upholstery, recovering old bits of furniture she's picked up from charity shops or flea markets. She's also a whizz on the sewing machine, making anything from quilts to bow ties, not to mention a keen knitter and crocheter...
Anyway... I decided to put her to work straight away!
I had picked up this abandoned chair from down the road, which was still in perfectly good nic, just needing a bit of tlc. So I sanded down the heavily polished wood and Rachel stripped the base of the seat ready for recovering.
I photographed the process and result...
Before:
Once the top fabric was in place she covered the bottom with a simple cream fabric and sewed it in with an upholstery needle (not pictured). Then all that was left to do was pop it back into the frame of the chair.
Voilà!
I'm so pleased with how it turned out... I'm keeping my eyes peeled for another chair like it and maybe have a go myself.
