Hauser & Wirth Somerset
On a warm summers day in August some friends and I visited Hauser & Wirth; a contemporary art gallery in the beautiful Somerset countryside. With its gallery space, incredible landscape garden and outdoor sculptures… it has been on my list of places to visit and I’m so glad I did.
We parked in the nearby village of Bruton and walked 10 minutes along the road and through an allotment to reach the gallery.
We spent the majority of our time there meandering around and taking in the beautiful garden, admiring the incredible colour, height and textures of its various plants & grasses.
The ‘Uncouncious Landscape’ exhibition was on show during our visit, a collection of works by 65 different female artists . One of whom was Louise Bourgeois which was particularly exciting as my 2 girls really love the book “Cloth Lullaby’; a beautiful account of her life growing up in Paris and the inspiration behind her work (see image of the spider sculptures below). It’s always great when the kids have something to connect to at these kinds of places. It means something more to them and it’s really important for them to begin to understand how art plays an important part in society.
Enjoy the photos!
